According to a Healthline article from 2014, sleep deprivation can lead to damaging health problems and even death. Here are some of the effects you may experience.

  • Accidental death or injury

  • Cognitive brain decline, lack of creativity, and concentration

  • Depression, anxiety, and thoughts of suicide

  • Memory loss

  • Poor work performance on the job

  • Weak immune system

  • Being more prone to viruses like the cold or flu

  • Become moody or angered easily

  • Affects insulin, increasing risk of Type 2 Diabetes

  • Weight gain because of increase in appetite and late night eating

  • High blood pressure

  • Heart disease

We have somehow fooled ourselves into thinking it’s okay to go 24/7 without stopping. However, a Harvard Medical School study showed that getting less than 5 hours of sleep a night increased the chance of death from all causes by 15%.

Would you believe that the average child in America gets 8 - 10 colds per year?

Consider having two or more kids, and you could have the potential of having sick ones at home at least once a month. That's not to mention them bringing the contagious germs home to you.

So, what's a parent to do?

1. Get your kids back into a routine of going to bed early. When they get run down, their small bodies suffer. With a weakened immune system, they're more likely to fall victim to any passing illness. 

If they're not feeling well, you'll have irritable children and that can affect their performance at school. Lack of sleep keeps them from being alert in the classroom and focusing on their studies.

2. Make sure your child has a healthy diet. Don't let their dislike of vegetables keep you from preparing delicious meals that will fuel them throughout the day.
