Some lessons can only be learned through pain

I learned a valuable lesson as a result of an unfortunate bike accident two years ago. Isn’t it funny how there are some lessons that can’t be learned any other way than from hard knocks (literally).Lol.

The weeks that followed were a challenge as I had to get used to doing things with one hand. Little did I know just how much my right hand depended on its silent partner, my left hand.

You try typing with just one hand. What about pulling up your pants, or tying your shoes? Everyday task took more thought and concentration, and it took much longer.

It’s easy to underestimate the importance of the parts of the body that don’t get a lot of attention.

I didn't realize how important my left hand was to my right hand performing routine tasks. Something as simple as writing on a piece of paper was challenging when I wasn't holding it in place with my left hand.

Removing a cap from a bottle was hard when you had to grip it with only one hand. Because I’m right-handed, I never took into consideration how much my left hand did.

So what, you say? I think we do that with people sometimes, too. It’s pretty easy to notice those that always have something to say. They’re outgoing or clever, so they get more attention.

But, behind the scenes are the quiet ones who are often the driving force of any given task. They do their job never asking for applause or recognition. They’re diligent and steadfast, and can always be counted on.

I bet you know someone like that. They might be a co-worker, friend, or family member. Take time to thank them for all they do when no one is looking.

God compared the parts of the body to the body of Christ, His people, in 1 Corinthians 12:12-31. Each part of our body is needed to function properly just as each person has great worth and value and has a purpose in society.

When value each other and are living out our purpose, the world will is a much better place and everyone's needs can continue to be met.

Who's that quiet, dependable, behind-the-scenes person in your life? Let them know you appreciate all they do.
